Jean Grey is an American mutant and member of the X-Men. Like the X-Men's founder Professor X, Grey employs telepathy and telekinesis. As such, she is something of a protégé to Professor X, and acts as his right hand in telepathically assisting the team from afar via Cerebro.

Biography

In late 1992, the X-Men were thrust into mainstream attention following the introduction of the Sentinels, giant mutant-hunting robots, by Henry Gyrich's Mutant Control Agency (MCA). They took a young mutant named Jubilee into their protection after saving her from a Sentinel attack. Professor X tasked the team with infiltrating an MCA base and destroying mutant-registration records. The mission was successful, but Beast was captured and taken to federal prison, and Morph was apparently killed by an attacking Sentinel. Jean felt Morph's death through Cerebro, and Xavier confirmed it. Wolverine wanted to stay behind and potentially save Morph and Beast, but Cyclops made the difficult order to escape, exacerbating their already contentious relationship. Jean comforted Cyclops, who was torn about whether he made the right decision. Meanwhile, Jubilee was taken by Gyrich to the Sentinel factory in Detroit. The team trailed a Sentinel to the facility and broke inside, freeing Jubilee and destroying the robots there. Gyrich and his chief engineer Bolivar Trask were forced to flee. Jubilee officially joined the X-Men, moving into the school and out of her foster parents' home.[1]
