Marvel Girl (Earth-1610)
Marvel Girl, born Jean Grey, is an American mutant hero and a member of the X-Men. She possesses various significant mental powers, including telekinesis and forms of hypnosis. These abilities are invaluable in evading government attention, which allows her to serve as a field agent and recruiter for the X-Men.
Biography
The teenage Jean Grey was one of the first two mutants recruited by Charles Xavier's into the X-Men along with Cyclops, with whom she formed a playful, flirting relationship. In early 2001, she was sent on a series of recruiting missions for new members. In San Diego she found the powerful and agile but erudite Henry McCoy; in Athens, Texas, she hypnotized a sheriff into freeing the imprisoned Ororo Munroe, a woman possessing unpredictable electrical powers; and in New York City, a towering Russian-mafia member with tough metallic skin, Piotr Rasputin. The three were quickly inaugurated into the X-Men, and respectively codenamed Beast, Storm, and Colossus. When the five were sent on a further recruiting mission for the teenage Bobby Drake, Marvel Girl's telekinetic powers were largely neutralized due to the enormous size of the Sentinels.[1] Conversely, Marvel Girl's abilities proved critical when the team went to retrieve Wolverine from government forces, as she telekinetically brought him under control and prevented him from killing a defenseless soldier.[2]
Marvel Girl's relationship with Wolverine would take a significant turn after he joined the X-Men. Following the team's rescue of the president's daughter from the Brotherhood of Mutants, the two confessed their attraction to each other in the Xavier School garden, ending with a spontaneous kiss.[3]
