Biography
A resident of San Diego, California, Henry McCoy was recruited to the X-Men by Marvel Girl in early 2001. He was assigned the codename "Beast" by senior X-Men member Cyclops, which he lightheartedly resented. Beast joined the X-Men at the same time as Colossus and Storm, and the five team members were quickly sent together on another recruiting mission. Their target was a teenage boy, Bobby Drake, and Beast was responsible for protecting him. This proved to be a critical role, as a group of Sentinels attacked shortly after the X-Men arrived. The team successfully defeated the Sentinels, and when Drake's icey mutant powers made themselves known, Beast gave him the name "Iceman."[1] When the X-Men went to Croatia to rescue the president's daughter from the Brotherhood of Mutants, Beast was horribly injured by an explosion.[2]
