Professor Charles Xavier is an American mutant living in New York and the founder of the X-Men. He possesses extraordinary mental powers, including telepathy and the ability to read and influence minds over great distances. These powers are further amplified by Cerebro, a powerful machine that Xavier developed to extend the range of his powers and seek out at-risk mutants. Xavier and the X-Men are constantly at odds with Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants.

Biography

Charles Xavier was close associates with Magneto, and the two founded a mutant refuge in the Savage Land. But the two diverged philosophically, as Xavier did not agree with Magneto's viewpoint that mutants were "homo superior," the evolutionary betters of humanity. Magneto crippled Xavier and cast him out, and some time later Xavier returned to New York to form the X-Men under the guise of a private school named the Xavier Institute for Gifted Children. Understanding that Magneto's path would lead to all-out war between humans and mutants, Xavier looked to form a team of mutants devoted to preventing that war. He personally recruited Scott Summers and Jean Grey, who would become the X-Men's team captain and primary recruitment agent, respectively.[1]
