Brotherhood of Mutants (Earth-1610)
The Brotherhood of Mutants are a team of villainous mutants founded by Magneto and based in the Savage Land. They are devoted to the utter defeat of the human race, believing themselves the rightful heirs to the Earth. They are in constant conflict with the X-Men, a group bent on preventing full-scale war between humans and mutants.
History
The Brotherhood of Mutants were founded by Magneto following his falling out with Charles Xavier. The two had established a mutant sanctuary in the Savage Land. Xavier did not share Magneto's perception of mutant superiority, and Magneto cast him out, crippling him in the process. How the Brotherhood formed from there isn't clear, but the core of the group by early 2001 consisted of Magneto, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Toad. Other members included Blob and Mastermind. Magneto further recruited Wolverine, who had been routinely on the run from government forces. He soon learned of Xavier's resurfacing in North America, having founded his own team of mutants, the X-Men. At this news, Magneto sent Wolverine on a mission to assassinate Xavier.[1][2]
