Fixer
- Not to be confused with Roscoe Sweeney, a gangster known as the Fixer.
The Fixer is an American criminal and engineer known for his uncanny ability to craft useful tools out of whatever materials are at hand. He possesses engineering knowledge on the level of even Tony Stark, although he also gets some practical outside help from an unspecified "them."
In 1965, the Fixer was imprisoned for an unknown crime, but he used the sparse supplies in his cell to break out in a complex and extravagant manner. Unbeknownst to him, he was being watched from afar by Mentallo, a telepath on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D. who wished to ally himself with the Fixer and destroy that organization.[1] Fixer established an undersea base surrounded by virtually innavigable traps. And yet, one day, a man in scuba gear arrived at the base's entrance hatch, and the impressed and curious Fixer let him in. Mentallo offered to team up and take down S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Fixer agreed. The two used a huge drilling machine belonging to Fixer to access S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters from underground. Mentallo knew that the Fixer couldn't have built such a monstrosity on his own, and Fixer cryptically explained that he had help from "them." Soon after penetrating the facility, they were met by agents led by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s director, Nick Fury. The duo used special shells that contained "element Z," which knocked its victims stiff and unconscious. They took Fury captive, equipping him with an "electronic mask" that would allow them to rewrite his brain structure and force him to follow their orders.[2]
