The Super-Skrull is a genetically engineered Skrull designed by Skrull leaders to defeat the Fantastic Four. Completed in 1963, the Super-Skrull was given ultra-powerful versions of the Four's abilities: Mr. Fantastic's pliable body; the Human Torch's flight and pyrokinesis; the Thing's superhuman strength; and Invisible Girl's ability to turn invisible, as well as a unique aptitude for hypnosis. His power is supplied by a distant energy source from the Skrull home planet.

He was sent to Earth in 1963, boldly and publicly declaring an invasion, and was quickly confronted by the Four as planned. The Super-Skrull held off the team's efforts, countering each of them with his superior abilities. The Four retreated to the Baxter Building, where Mr. Fantastic deduced the Super-Skrull's secret energy source. The heroes met him once more on a deserted island, where the three men distracted him while Invisible Girl surreptitiously attached a signal jammer to his body. This indeed jammed the Skrull energy signal, stripping the Super-Skrull of his powers. Now holding the advantage, the Four threw the Skrull into a nearby crater, and Human Torch fused the sand above, trapping him inside.[1]

The Super-Skrull was freed and returned home by his brethren, where they decided on another plan of attack for some time. Realizing that he could not defeat the Fantastic Four in a fair fight, the Skrulls decided on a plan of deception. The Super-Skrull beamed down into the prison cell of Franklin Storm—father of Invisible Girl and Human Torch—altered his shape to look like him, and had Storm beamed back to the Skrull home planet. The Super-Skrull went on to act as Franklin and declare himself the "Invincible Man," storming through the streets of New York as half of the Fantastic Four hesitated to hurt their own father. Mr. Fantastic eventually saw through this guise however, and deduced the Super-Skrull's true identity. He demanded that the Super-Skrull return home and give back the real Franklin. He did so, but the nefarious Skrulls had a final attack in mind. They sent Franklin back with a laser weapon attached to his chest that would fire upon his arrival, intending to kill the Fantastic Four on sight. Instead, Franklin took the brunt of the blow when he returned to Earth, sacrificing himself to save his children and their allies.[2] The Fantastic Four traveled to the Skrull home planet seeking justice for Franklin, and confronted the Skrull responsible for the species' incursions on Earth in recent years, Morrat. Morrat's crimes were brought to the king, who executed Morrat. The Super-Skrull remained at large, escaping the Four's full vengeance.[3] The Super-Skrull re-emerged when he was coerced by Doctor Doom's emotion machine into attacking the Baxter Building on the day of the wedding of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. A veritable legion of villains fought a similarly powerful force of heroes defending the Baxter Building. Super-Skrull came in his spacecraft, but was smashed out of the air by Thor and his hammer, and was soon also confronted by the Human Torch. In the end, Reed Richards used a device provided by Uatu to transport all of the villains back slightly in time and wipe their memories of these events. Reed and Sue Storm were thus successfully and peacefully married.[4]
