John Hargate was the son of American millionaire George Hargate. He was best friends with Tom Denver until the Hargates came into possession of the Blooded Ruby of Chung,[note 1] a mystical gem that has the potential to alter the minds of those who look upon it. John sought protection from the magician/detective Dakor, but Denver shot and killed him on the way.[1]
