Blob
The Blob is an American carnival entertainer and mutant. He is morbidly obese due to his mutation, to the point that he is virtually immovable and impenetrable when he chooses to be, digging his powerful feet into the ground to secure his position. While not particularly agile, he is perhaps more mobile than one would expect given his girth.
Biography
By early 1964, Blob was working as a sideshow act at a carnival in New York. He was approached by the X-Men, a team of heroic mutants led by Charles Xavier, for potential membership. It was through the X-Men and a series of tests at their private school that Blob first learned of his mutanthood. Blob was unimpressed with the X-Men, and harshly brushed off their offer. Professor X realized what a threat Blob would thus be having learned their identities, and the X-Men leapt into action to restrain him, but Blob's immense girth was too much for them, and he escaped. Back at the carnival, he realized that the X-Men would continue to pursue him now that he knew their identities. He rounded up a group of cohorts from the carnival and stormed the X-Men's school, but he and the others were held off by the heroes. The X-Men bought enough time for Xavier to finish a device that amplified his mental powers, allowing him to simultaneously wipe the memories of all the carnival workers, including Blob. Blob and his henchmen were left to wander back to the carnival, utterly confused.[1]
Several months later, Blob was approached at the carnival by Magneto, leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Blob was uninterested in Magneto's offer to join the Brotherhood, and became aggressive when Magneto pushed the issue. In the scuffle, Magneto jostled Blob's head, breaking a mental block that Professor X had put on him when the X-Men had faced him months prior. Blob remembered that the X-Men were his enemies, and that they were afraid of him joining with Magneto; this was enough to make him accept Magneto's offer. The Brotherhood made their way to an abandoned factory away from civilization that Magneto had prepared personally. He radioed the X-Men's school to notify them of where they could be found. The X-Men arrived as expected, and the two teams fought. Eventually, Magneto fired a series of torpedos that he had prepared, but the X-Men all ducked behind the Blob, and he absorbed the entirety of the blast. Incredibly, he was unharmed, but Magneto realized that his plan had failed and the core Brotherhood members retreated in his plane. Scarlet Witch was increasingly frustrated at Magneto's violent approach to mutant superiority. Meanwhile, Blob became fed up with the mutant conflict as a whole, and decided to return to his job at the carnival, independent of the X-Men and the Brotherhood.[2]
