Unus the Untouchable is a mutant professional wrestler and villain. Unus's mutation causes him to effortlessly deflect any harmful object that comes near him, while still allowing him to make contact with things as normal otherwise. This mutation naturally proves invaluable in the ring, and Unus's utter dominance makes him a very popular wrestler.

Biography

In late 1964, Unus met Mastermind, a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants led by Magneto. Unus was interested in joining the group, but Magneto wanted him to prove himself first by bringing him one or more of the X-Men, the Brotherhood's nemeses. Later that day, Unus witnessed a bank robbery, and took one of the bags of cash from the robbers. The X-Men soon arrived and fought Unus, thinking him responsible for the crime. Unus's power thoroughly disrupted their offense, though Angel was able to get close to him. Unus grabbed him in a wrestling hold, but Angel flew up into the sky and left him gripping the edge of a tall spire to incapacitate him for the time being. Unus was able to recover, but was later confronted by the X-Men once more. Beast, apparently acting against the other X-Men, used a special ray gun to increase Unus's powers. As the X-Men fled, Unus was overjoyed by his apparent invulnerability: any object within a few feet of him was repelled away from him. However, this in itself proved to be a detriment as well. Unus realized that he wouldn't be able to survive for long without sustenance. Beast and the others returned, and Beast offered to return Unus's powers to normal on the condition that he would not use his powers for evil, especially to join the Brotherhood. Unus readily agreed, eager to return to his normal life in the ring.[1]

In 1966, Unus was challenged in the ring by the Blob, another enemy of the X-Men. They proved a perfect match for each other, and afterward they decided to team up and gain revenge against the X-Men by committing a series of robberies in their disguise. Unbeknownst to them, they had been mentally influenced to do so from afar by Lucifer. The two were inevitably confronted by the true X-Men during one such robbery, and Cyclops destroyed the ground beneath them to send them to the underground, carried away by a moving subway car—but Lucifer's plot had just begun.[2]
