Jack Murdock
Jack Murdock, also known as Battling Murdock or Kid Murdock, was an American boxer and the father of Matt Murdock, better known as the hero Daredevil. Honoring his wife's dying wish, Jack brought up his son to be a diligent student, even though Matt himself wanted to be an athlete like his father. While Matt was in college, Jack reluctantly took the unscrupulous Fixer as his manager, being otherwise unable to get himself booked in any fights. He suddenly found tremendous success, winning several big fights in a row—unfortunately, Fixer had "fixed" the fights ahead of time, and was simply setting up Murdock for a fall down the road. When the time came during Matt's senior year, Jack was told to take a fall in a fight with another top contender. But Matt was in the crowd that night, and Jack couldn't bear the thought of deliberately losing in front of his son. Jack won the fight, and he and his son bonded over his victory. But the Fixer paid Murdock back, and had one of his henchmen shoot and kill Murdock that night. Matt created his Daredevil persona to avenge his father, and indeed tracked down the Fixer shortly after Jack's death. The Fixer suffered a fatal heart attack trying to escape his grasp, while the henchmen who physically killed Jack was brought to justice.[1]
