Biography
Ultimates
By early 2002, world-famous industrialist Tony Stark had developed the "Iron Man" suit, a flying, wearable weapon and technological marvel.[note 1] Stark was on the shortlist for S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Ultimates project, alongside Henry and Janet Pym and whomever was to become Bruce Banner's new Captain America-like "super soldier." The Ultimates were to be a superhero team designed to defend America's interests, and choosing the popular and charismatic Iron Man was largely done for the sake of public relations. Stark happily signed on, despite his misgivings about Banner's recent violent past; he also readily suggested Thor as a potential member to S.H.I.E.L.D. head Nick Fury.[1]
