Igor Drenkov[1][2][note 1] is a scientist and communist spy whom the U.S.S.R. tasked with stealing American Bruce Banner's gamma bomb formula. He was present at the initial test of the gamma bomb, and, after Banner ran into the testing grounds to save Rick Jones, opted not to delay the test, hoping to dispose of Banner outright. Banner was severely irradiated, but instead became the Hulk. Following the test, Igor went to Banner's laboratory to search for the G-bomb plans, but was trounced by a returning Hulk and taken into custody by the military. Nonetheless, he was able to send a coded message to the Gargoyle via a transistor embedded in his thumbnail, warning him of the American threat of the Hulk. Igor's fate since then is unknown.[3]
