Flash Thompson
Flash Thompson is a teenage American boy living in New York City. He is a wildly popular student at Midtown High School, in sharp contrast to his rival of sorts, the bookish Peter Parker, whom he frequently antagonizes.[1]
Biography
1963
By late 1963, the rivalry between Thompson and Peter Parker was well established. Parker, secretly the hero Spider-Man, did everything he could to avoid suspicion of his secret identity, to the point of casting doubt on Spider-Man's true intentions among his schoolmates. Thompson, an enthusiastic fan of Spider-Man, took exception to Parker's comments, and concocted a prank on him with some other students. Thompson would dress up as Spider-Man and jump out at Parker to scare him. As everything was put into place, including Thompson in full costume and Parker strolling around the streets of New York, Thompson was suddenly ambushed and abducted by Doctor Doom. Doom looked to use Spider-Man as bait for his nemeses the Fantastic Four, and had tracked down Parker's spider DNA to the general area, and naturally mistook Thompson for Spider-Man. Doom gassed and abducted Thompson, taking him to his hideout and holding him captive. Doom held "Spider-Man" hostage, demanding that the Four surrender to him or forfeit his prisoner's life. Much to his surprise, the real Spider-Man showed up and engaged him in combat. This combined with the later arrival of the Four themselves forced Doom to retreat, and the Four were left to bring Thompson to safety. After this harrowing experience, Flash was more popular at school than ever.[2]
