Ferret, born Leslie Lenrow,[1] is an American author and private investigator living and working in New York City. He has a pet ferret named Nosey who helps him on his adventures.

Biography

Ferret's first known case came in early 1940 when he uncovered the culprit of a series of jewel robberies.[2] This came at the expense of the local police force, whom Ferret took a liking to benignly antagonizing. Following a murder, Ferret challenged the police commissioner Walter Novak[1] to give him the least significant clue they could find so that he could solve the case. He took a blank piece of paper from the victim's pockets, and took it back to his lab for analysis. He found that the paper had been "written on" with a wet matchstick, producing text that is invisible unless rewetted. He found an address and followed it, finding a counterfeiting group led by Rickey Rinaldo. With help from Nosey, Ferret incapacitated Rinaldo and brought him to justice.[3] Over the next few months, he also solved a strange murder involving thallium poisoning[4], thwarted an attempted ransom operation,[5], took down bank robber Blackie Giles,[6] and resolved a murderous dispute between owners of a cleaning company.[7]
