Eric Koenig (Earth-199999)

Eric Koenig was an American S.H.I.E.L.D. agent whom Nick Fury assigned to watch over his secret base in the Canadian wilderness known as Providence. He possesses a conspicuously similar appearance to Billy Koenig, watchman of the Playground.

Part of Koenig's duty was to receive Phil Coulson and keep him safe, owing to Fury's trust for Coulson. Koenig was otherwise very suspicious of the rest of Coulson's team when they sought refuge in Providence in 2014, and was responsible for submitting each of them to "orientation" if they tried to leave: that is, a series of questions for which they were attached to a virtually foolproof, incredibly advanced lie detector designed by Fury himself. Anyone who passed orientation would be provided with a lanyard that submitted their location data to Koenig's tablet, allowing him to keep tabs on them within Providence. Koenig's numerous security measures proved well-founded but ultimately ineffective, as he was killed by covert Hydra agent Grant Ward as Koenig and Skye were beginning to get too close to acquiring vital Hydra intel. Ward stashed Koenig's body in an air vent, but Skye found it, which proved to be Ward's undoing within the team.
