Elliot Randolph is a former Asgardian warrior who passes as a human working as a literature professor in Earth-199999. He migrated to Earth around the end of the first millennium CE, staying behind after the Berserker Army came there for an undisclosed battle. He broke his Berserker Staff into three pieces and hid them in Norway, Ireland, and Spain in order to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. This plan worked until late 2013, when a Norse paganist hate group including Jakob Nystrom and Petra Larsen claimed the piece in a Norwegian forest, using its power to cause rampant chaos and declare themselves gods. Agents from S.H.I.E.L.D. led by Phil Coulson came to Randolph's office in Seville inquiring about the Staff, and he gave them vague information about the other piece's whereabouts, wanting to reclaim the Staff for himself and keep it from causing further damage. The team of agents caught him with the Spanish piece however, and took him into custody. He revealed his true identity and pointed them to the final piece at a monastery in Ireland. When they arrived, Nystrom had beaten them to it, and stabbed Randolph in the torso with the final piece. As Coulson slowed the bleeding, agent Grant Ward fought off Nystrom and his followers. The team were able to claim the completed Staff and defeat the Norse supremacists, and Randolph's accelerated Asgardian healing allowed him to recover. Randolph thought about leaving Europe, and Coulson advised him to move to Portland.[1]
