Brian Xavier was an American nuclear physicist. He was killed by a nuclear test at Alamogordo, New Mexico in the 1940s,[note 1] leaving behind his wife Sharon and son Charles. His colleague Kurt Marko had the opportunity to save him from the blast, but hesitated and failed to do so. Kurt and Sharon got married months later, and both died separately not long afterward. Charles grew up to become Professor X, leader of the heroic mutants known as the X-Men.[1]
