Zar

Zar is an African lion and "brother" to Ka-Zar the Great, David Rand. Zar kept a close eye on the young David, who showed a keen attachment to the animals of the jungle. A teenage David saved Zar from a pit of quicksand, and Zar later returned the favor by saving David from Paul de Kraft and his minions. Following the death of David's father John at the hands of de Kraft, Zar took David as a "brother," dubbing him Ka-Zar.
