The Terrible Trio are a team of small-time villains who were granted superpowers by Doctor Doom. They consist of "Handsome" Harry Phillips, a conman with superior hearing; Yogi Dakor, a snake charmer with a flying carpet and resistance to fire; and Bull Brogin, a tough fighter with exceptional strength.

History

In early 1964, Phillips, Dakor, and Brogin were each bailed out of jail by Doctor Doom, who requested their aid in defeating the Fantastic Four. He used a special device on them that provided each of them with a different enhanced ability. Doom assigned himself and the three men to different members of the Four: the nigh-fireproof Dakor to the Human Torch; the ultra-sensitive Phillips to the Invisible Girl; the powerful Brogin to the Thing; and Doom himself to his nemesis, Mr. Fantastic. The villains were successful in apprehending the heroes, and Doom sent his underlings to another dimension until he had further use for them.[1] The Four fought their way out of Doom's clutches however, sending him into space and releasing his hold on the Trio, depositing them back on Earth. They realized that Doom would be back one day, and when he returned, they would benefit from having something to show him. They decided to attempt to take out the Fantastic Four once more, again kidnapping them one by one. They began with the Human Torch, teaming up on him in his home and dumping him in an asbestos-lined trailer nearby. They returned to Torch's home to wait for his sister, Invisible Girl, to return from being out. But Torch was able to escape his enclosure, and returned home to handily defeat the trio.[2]

Phillips, Dakor, and Brogin were imprisoned, and came to be popularly known as the Terrible Trio. They escaped from prison in early 1965, and set their sights on the revenge. They spotted the Human Torch flying through the sky—ironically looking for them after hearing news of their escape—and managed to get the jump on him as he landed on the ground. Torch got his foot stuck in the train track and got knocked out by Brogin, but not before letting off a Fantastic Four signal flare. The Thing soon arrived to provide backup, but was himself ambushed and tied to the tracks. Thing managed to stop the incoming train with his legs however, and break free, free the Torch, and defeat and apprehend the Trio.[3]
