Radioactive Man
Radioactive Man, born Chen Lu, is a Chinese scientist, villain, and former member of the Masters of Evil.
Biography
In the early 1960s, Chen began gradually immunizing himself to radiation, preparing himself for the extreme transformation that would come to define his life. When Thor fought against the Chinese military in 1963, Chen and other scientists were tasked by their military overseers to come up with a way to defeat him. Chen enacted his plan, exposing himself to intense radiation and becoming Radioactive Man. He traveled to New York City and challenged Thor in combat, resisting all of Thor's signature offense and hypnotizing him. The confused Thor was forced to throw his hammer away; as Radioactive Man went off to retrieve it, Thor returned to his secret form of Dr. Don Blake. The inconspicuous Blake averted Radioactive Man's gaze, retreating and retrieving his hammer from the sea. Thor returned and created a powerful tornado to send him plummeting back to China, where he crashed and exploded in the barren mountains, seemingly killing him.[1] By the following year however, Radioactive Man had recovered and was recruited by Baron Zemo to challenge the Avengers, of which Thor was a member. He would join the Black Knight and the Melter in a team called the Masters of Evil to spread Zemo's heretofore-unbreakable Adhesive X across New York. The Avengers arrived as expected, and though the adhesive proved to be an effective weapon against them, they soon rebutted with a "super-dissolver" courtesy of imprisoned villain Paste-Pot Pete. This gave them the upper hand against the Masters, defeating them and bringing them all to justice.[2]
