Peggy Carter is an American woman who fought in World War II in 1944, fighting alongside French partisans against occupying Nazi forces. During the Battle of Normandy, she met Captain America, and the two fell in love over the following weeks. After the battle of the Falaise pocket in August, the two were forced to go their separate ways as their missions took them to different parts of France. Peggy went to Paris and aided the resistance in reclaiming the capital, but was captured and interrogated by German soldiers. She gave up no information, and so was prepped for execution pending the Germans' evacuation of Paris. Their fleeing transports were struck by an Allied shell, and the resulting explosion left Carter totally amnesiac, wandering aimlessly through the city. Captain America arrived in Paris soon after to witness the city's liberation, but was saddened to learn that Peggy was nowhere to be found. Carter's ensuing fate is unknown.[1]
