Molten Man
Molten Man, born Mark Raxton, is an American villain and scientist in New York City. Due to a scientific mishap, he is covered in liquid yellow metal skin, granting him superior strength and resilience.
Biography
In 1965, Raxton worked with Spencer Smythe to develop an alloy of metal liquid. In truth, Smythe had been primarily responsible for the formula's development and financial backing, but Raxton was nonetheless possessive of it. He took possession of the formula in Smythe's lab, but the two fought, and he wound up spilling it over himself. The alloy fused with his body, essentially causing him to be covered in liquid metal skin. As a result, Raxton—the Molten Man—gained superior strength and durability. After causing some mild chaos around town testing out his powers, Molten Man returned to his apartment and began planning a larger-scale crime. He was interrupted by Spider-Man however, and the two fought. Spider-Man's webs proved to be ineffective against Molten Man's slick metal epidermis, but he managed to get up close and hogtie the new villain using his superior wits and agility. Police arrived soon after and arrested Raxton.[1]
The judge at Raxton's sentencing showed sympathy for the accident that caused his physical abnormality, and in acknowledgment of his apparent remorse and willingness to cover financial damages, suspended his sentence. In truth, Molten Man returned home determined to continue his life of crime. He knew that his downfall last time was relying solely on his strength, and he would this time use his cunning mind to overcome Spider-Man should the need arise. He developed a disguise, including a convincing mask to cover his metal skin, and attempted to rob a jewelry store. Spider-Man interfered, but Raxton pummeled him until the shopkeeper yelled for the police, prompting Raxton to flee empty-handed. He attempted to rob the store's safe several days later, but Spider-Man had deduced his identity and trailed him, securing critical photographic evidence. Spider-Man confronted him, and the two fought. Spider-Man eventually got the better of him with some strong metal cord, and tied him up with the photos for the police to take him away.[2]
