Mister Fear
Mister Fear, born Zoltan Drago, is an American villain in New York City and former sculptor and amateur scientist, known for his potent fear gas that causes irresistible terror in any who breathe it.
Biography
In 1964, Zoltan Drago owned a wax museum filled with his well-crafted sculptures of famous heroes and villains. The business was nonetheless a fledgling one, and he desired to discover a chemical concoction that would bring his sculptures to life. In an unexpected incident with his cat, Drago instead discovered a chemical solution that produced great fear in those who breathed its vapors. He saw the criminal potential in this formula, and crafted a pistol that would fire pellets filled with the gas. He devised a villainous persona for himself, Mister Fear, complete with mask and robe, and set out to recruit lesser villains to do his bidding. He settled on the Eel and the Ox, each of whom he believed to be uniquely capable but not clever enough to challenge his leadership. He found the Eel hiding out in the sewers and approached Ox on the day of his parole, coercing them both with fear gas to follow his lead.
In early 1965, Mister Fear and his cronies—the Fellowship of Fear—robbed a bank, but were attacked by Daredevil. Fear successfully used his fear gas against the hero, forcing him to flee, although the fight attracted enough attention for the police to arrive in time. Drago crafted a sculpture of Daredevil and advertised its debut at his museum, intending to bait the hero into visiting. Daredevil showed up after hours, as did another man, Foggy Nelson. Daredevil again fell victim to the fear gas, and Ox knocked out Nelson. Mister Fear believed that Nelson might be a detective, and decided to flee in case more police were coming. The Fellowship later infiltrated Nelson's hospital room, aiming to silence him for good. However, they were interrupted by Daredevil without their fear gas at hand, and fled once more. They returned to the museum, but Daredevil beat them there and got the jump on them. Mister Fear begged for mercy when confronted with direct violence, and Daredevil handily tied up the three for recovery by the police.[1]
