Professor Mendel Stromm was a German American roboticist who was aligned with Norman Osborn in the 1950s. In the middle of the decade, under mysterious circumstances, Osborn cheated Stromm out of his robotic inventions and caused his subsequent imprisonment after Stromm threatened him. Mendel was released in 1966, having vowed revenge for years, and immediately began developing new robotic creations to gain revenge on Osborn, assisted by another ex-con, Max Young. A series of attacks on Osborn's electronics facilities garnered the attention of Spider-Man, who ultimately confronted Stromm in his hideout. Mendel knew of Osborn's secret identity as the villainous Green Goblin, and aimed to tell Spider-Man, before he was shot by the Goblin himself from a high window. Spider-Man's spider sense allowed him to shove Stromm out of the way of the bullet, but he nonetheless suffered a fatal heart attack.[1]
