Hydra is a fanatical, terroristic espionage group devoted to world domination. As a result of their ambitions, they are endlessly opposed by the international defense organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Hydra's followers are loyal to a fault, and will go to any lengths necessary to accomplish their goals—notably, extreme long-term espionage. They are inspired by the mythical beast of the same name, and live by the motto, "Cut off a limb, and two more shall take its place."[1]
