Earth-772
Earth-772[1] is a minor divergent universe from Earth-616 which Spider-Man joined the Fantastic Four—Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Girl, the Thing, and the Human Torch—early on in his crimefighting career, forming the Fantastic Five. In the end, Spider-Man's increasingly prominent position in the team caused Invisible Girl to feel slighted, to the point that she left the team permanently and chose to live with Namor the Sub-Mariner under the sea.
In Earth-616, in early 1963, Spider-Man expressed an interest in joining the Fantastic Four as a way of earning an income, but changed his mind after learning that they didn't pay and after receiving an icey reception from the bulk of the team. In Earth-772 however, as Spider-Man began to depart, Invisible Girl convinced him to come back, and the two parties hashed out terms to adopt him into the team. Mr. Fantastic agreed to hire Spider-Man, while also increasing the income for the other members at the expense of the team's scientific budget. In turn, the Four insisted that Spider-Man expose his true identity to them, and he reluctantly agreed, revealing himself to be the high-school student Peter Parker. The next day, the Four held a press conference to announce Spider-Man's entry into the team, creating a new alliance known as the Fantastic Five. Spider-Man indeed proved a terrific addition to the team, and the formation of the Five produced a number of divergences from the Earth-616 reality. The Chameleon, who established himself by taking advantage of Spider-Man's infamy, never achieved much of significance. The Vulture, a great threat to Spider-Man alone, proved no match for the Fantastic Five.
When Reed Richards developed a rocket to travel to the Moon, it was only big enough to carry four of the team. He decided that Sue Storm would stay behind, and she was quietly, subtly resentful that Spider-Man was taking her place on the team. The other four arrived on the Moon, where they defeated the Red Ghost and his Super-Apes and met Uatu. While they were gone, the Puppet Master enacted his plot to control Namor the Sub-Mariner and use him to defeat the Fantastic Five, just as he would do in Earth-616. Invisible Girl was thus taken to Namor's undersea lair to lure the rest of the team. Her allies trailed Namor and fought him, but after they had released Puppet Master's hold on him, Sue decided that she wished to stay with Namor, perceiving that Reed didn't value her as much as he once did. Namor used a special prototype machine to make Sue breathe water instead of air, and the two went off to rule Atlantis together. Reed attempted to mask his indescribable heartbreak by noting that their marriage would result in a more positive relationship between Atlantis and the surface world. Spider-Man felt ashamed that he might have caused Sue's departure—Johnny Storm comfortingly but falsely assured Spider-Man that things probably would have turned out the same anyway.[2]
