Super-Apes

The Super-Apes are a trio of super-powered, villainous apes—a gorilla, baboon, and orangutan—once led by the communist Red Ghost. Red Ghost took the Apes and himself on a mission to the Moon, and along the way deliberately exposed them to cosmic radiation in the same manner that the Fantastic Four had to acquire their powers. As a result, they all indeed gained powers of their own: the gorilla attained super strength, the baboon learned to shapeshift into ostensibly any object, and the orangutan gained the ability to control magnetism.

Ghost and the Apes met the Fantastic Four on the Moon and briefly engaged them in combat. But Red Ghost owed his hold on the Apes to keeping them hungry; the Apes were able to find sustenance in the Moon's ancient city and turned on Red Ghost. When the Four departed the Moon, the Apes were chasing Ghost interminably. Nonetheless, Red Ghost somehow regained control of the Apes and constructed a spaceship powered by the orangutan's magnetism. Over a year later, he and the Apes returned to Earth and trapped the Fantastic Four on their ship, depositing them in the oxygen-free portion of the Moon. But Mr. Fantastic found a device that pulled Red Ghost's spaceship down with them, leading to a rematch of sorts between the two teams. This led to Red Ghost confronting Mr. Fantastic inside the home of Uatu. Invisible Girl snuck up behind him and shoved him into what appeared to be a portal, which Mr. Fantastic speculated could potentially lead to anywhere in the universe. The Apes, meanwhile, regained control of the ship and flew off to an unknown fate.
