The Collector, born Taneleer Tivan, is a person known for "collecting" various rare objects and creatures throughout the universe. In 2013, he was given the Reality Stone by Asgard, as they already possessed the Space Stone and didn't want multiple Infinity Stones in one place.[1] Soon after, he contacted the assassin known as Gamora and hired her to bring him the Orb, which he knew contained the Power Stone. Gamora was in the employ of her father Thanos and Ronan the Accuser to retrieve the Orb, but she trusted neither, and agreed to help the Collector.[2]
