Cleopatra was the pharaoh of Egypt shortly before the first millennium, renowned for her remarkable beauty. Cleopatra defeated the army of King Hatap in battle to claim power, seemingly killing him. In fact, Hatap had put himself in suspended animation, returning to life 2,000 years later in 1963. Hatap returned some time into Cleopatra's reign, bringing along 20th-century scientist Tony Stark—unbeknownst to him, the hero Iron Man. Iron Man quickly turned on Hatap, instead fighting alongside the reigning pharaoh, who was immediately infatuated with the man in golden armor. Iron Man fought off Hatap's forces, claiming the magical charm that allowed him to travel through time; Hatap fell on his own sword in the struggle, killing him. Cleopatra wished for Iron Man to rule over Egypt with her, but he returned to the present.[1] Cleopatra went on to fall in love with the Roman general Mark Antony, though her wizard Zota desired her for himself. The jealous Zota magically cast Cleopatra far into the future and attempted to kill Antony. His plan was foiled by Doctor Strange, a sorcerer from the 20th century, who traveled back in time and stripped Zota of his powers, returning Cleopatra to her own time to live with Antony.[2]
