Ape-Man, born Gordon "Monk" Keefer,[1] is an American criminal with the Ani-Men. In early 1965, Monk was part of an effort to rob a Stark Industries plant, but he and his accomplices were stopped by Captain America and Rick Jones.[2] Keefer was incarcerated in a federal prison for much of the year until a shady man calling himself the Organizer offered to break him out in exchange for joining his new team. Monk accepted, and the stealthy Cat-Man sprung a prison break to his benefit soon after. Organizer granted Monk the moniker of Ape-Man to complement his natural power and climbing ability. Like the other Ani-Men, Ape-Man is currently in prison after Daredevil took down the Organizer in 1965.[3][4]
