The Actor, birth name unknown, was an actor and spy known for his uncanny masteries of disguise and imitation. Little is known of his past, including his place of origin. In 1963, he traveled to the Soviet Union to accept a job from the Soviet warlord the Red Barbarian to steal the plans for a purported super-weapon being built by American Tony Stark. Actor was able to lure Stark away from his heavily guarded industry headquarters, taking a pair of fellow spies in while disguised as Stark himself. There he found pieces of Stark's Iron Man armor, becoming only the second person alive to know of Stark's secret hero identity. Actor decided to withhold this knowledge, believing it to be a valuable piece of information should a critical moment arise. The other spies also found the intended plans, which outlined the details of a disintegration ray. As Actor returned to the U.S.S.R. with the briefcase containing the plans, he ordered the other spies to kill Stark upon his return.

The assassination was a failure, and Actor was intercepted by Iron Man in the U.S.S.R.. Iron Man left him captive while he himself took the plans to Red Barbarian. Iron Man claimed to Barbarian to be the Actor disguised as Iron Man, telling him that the briefcase containing the plans had an explosive time lock and that he would return soon to open it. Iron Man then released Actor, allowing him to report to Barbarian, but took the plans himself and returned home. Unaware of what had occurred, Actor came to the Barbarian hoping to report Iron Man's identity, but was unable to get out the information before Barbarian shot and killed him for his failure and perceived deception.[1]
