Abomination (Earth-199999)
The Abomination, born Emil Blonsky c. 1970,[note 1] is a Russian-British soldier, and later violent monster, who was enlisted by American general Thunderbolt Ross to head a task force designed to take down the Hulk, A.K.A. scientist Bruce Banner, in 2009.
Biography
After the military tracked Banner to Brazil, Emil Blonsky and his unit zeroed in on his location, armed with tranquilizer munitions. But due to an altercation with some Brazilian street thugs, Banner transformed into the Hulk and destroyed all of Blonsky's unit, save Blonsky himself. Blonsky was largely in the dark about the threat that the Hulk posed going into this mission, and he expressed as much to General Ross. Ross explained to him the nature of Banner's transformation: namely, that it was an attempt to recreate the super-soldier serum gone awry. Blonsky volunteered to take a small dose of the serum himself; this enhancement gave Blonsky in heightened physical capabilities, along with a more reckless, selfish attitude. Banner was further tracked to Culver University in Virginia, where this time a full-blown military force engaged him. Blonsky's supreme speed and endurance aided him when Banner again transformed; Blonsky disobeyed direct orders from Ross to stand down, confronting the Hulk face-to-face. Hulk landed a swift kick to the chest, sending Blonsky flying into a tree and knocking him unconscious. Blonsky incredibly survived, owing to the advantages afforded to him by the serum, and recovered far more quickly than expected. He insisted on another dose of the serum, obsessed with becoming stronger and defeating the Hulk.
Blonsky's second dose introduced more extreme bodily changes, including tighter skin and an exaggerated spine. For the third and final time, military forces honed in on Banner's location, this time at Grayburn College in New York City, where he was consulting Dr. Samuel Sterns regarding a potential cure for his condition. This consultation, ongoing long-term for months, led to Sterns possessing a great deal of Banner's blood samples. A military sniper successfully shot Banner through a window with a tranquilizer, allowing Blonsky to approach and disable him for arrest. As Ross and his forces carted Banner away, Blonsky confronted Sterns and forced him to infuse him with Banner's blood; Sterns warned him of the consequences, but Blonsky insisted. Sterns agreed under duress, changing Blonsky into a huge, pale, malicious monster that Sterns dubbed an "Abomination." Overcome with fury and bloodlust for the Hulk, the Abomination stormed out of the college campus, running rampant through the streets of New York. Realizing the immediate threat, Ross and his men reluctantly released Banner from their escort, allowing him to transform into the Hulk and battle the Abomination. The two engaged in a colossal battle throughout the city, ending with Hulk getting the advantage and strangling the downed Abomination with a chain. Abomination was spared and given over to Ross' forces to be taken to custody.[1] He was held in captivity in a cryo-cell in Barrow, Alaska, where he remained safely under control as of 2013.[2]
