Witchbreed was the word used for mutants in Earth-311 in the early 17th century. The term was rooted in Christian prejudice, as prominent Catholics and Protestants—notably King James—attributed mutations to magical corruption. The Spanish Inquisition led by Enrique (in alliance with King James) sought to destroy all witchbreed, while a peaceful resistance led by Carlos Javier in England rescued and trained wayward witchbreed: his students included Scotius Summerisle, Robert Trefusis, and Jean Grey.[1]
