Unstable molecules

Unstable molecules are a scientific phenomenon discovered by Reed Richards that allow the design of materials with various qualities, the shared quality being that the materials can change at the will of their wearers. Richards, as his Mr. Fantastic persona, wears a costume made with unstable molecules that forms to his body even as it stretches to great lengths.[1] Similarly, Henry Pym uses unstable molecules in his Ant-Man costume that transforms with him as his body dramatically changes size.[2][note 1] Human Torch and Invisible Girl have unstable-molecule costumes that comfortably hold fire and turn invisible, respectively.

Notes

  1. It is unclear whether or not Pym discovered unstable molecules independently of Richards; the two aren't known to have had any contact prior to each developing their costumes.
