Mutate

A mutate is a person who acquires extraordinary powers by some means other than birth. This distinction largely exists as a contrast to mutants, those who acquired powers as a natural genetic mutation. Spider-Man, Captain America, and Daredevil are examples of mutates, as they each gained superpowers through scientific modification. Iron Man and Ant-Man are not mutates, because their powers come from factors that remain external rather than modifying their biology inherently.
