The Chitauri are an alien race that exist in different forms across the multiverse.
Earth-199999
In the Earth-199999 universe, the Chitauri are a warlike, biomechanical, technologically advanced race who operate by a hive mind connected through their mothership. In 2012, Thanos aligned himself with the Chitauri in an attempt to conquer Earth as part of his larger quest to recover the Infinity Stones. Thanos recruited Loki to steal the Tesseract and lead the Chitauri into an invasion of Earth, but this attempt was repelled by the Avengers when Iron Man threw a nuclear bomb into the Chitauri mothership.[1]
